Fascinated by the everyday and the exceptional, Merryl Tielman has defined a style all of her own. She considers a bag a sculptural object rather than a fashion accessory and pairs enigmatic forms with functionality.
‘People sometimes wonder if I am an educated architect. I am not. Nor am I a fashion designer. I look at shapes. Of a church, a trashcan, domestic appliances. I look and study, try and struggle, cut and fold, transforming just a shape into a bag. A bag that holds your personal belongings, whilst looking sharp as hell. Such is a bag by Merryl Tielman.’
Merryl Tielman works and lives in Amsterdam where she studied Audiovisual Arts. She fell under the spell of leather when she was educated in shoemaking. It was in creating bags that she finally could express her artistic vision.

Featuring an unusual construction and a myriad of details it takes highly skilled artisans to produce our bags. A modern family-run factory in the Italian Veneto region, used to working with bigger brands, adopted the Merryl Tielman label as their special project. Considering the flawless realization of every design a challenge to be conquered, we explore new frontiers together.

Merryl Tielman bags are made of vegetable tanned bovine leather. Vegetable tanning is a traditional curing process, using natural tannins derived from plants such as birch and mimosa. In a Tuscany based tannery the hides from Western European origin are treated in the most environment friendly fashion* possible. The costly and time consuming process results in leather of utmost quality.
Leather is a natural product. Marks and colour variations should be considered as characteristics rather than imperfections. To preserve its authenticity and natural looks the leather is finished with minimal use of substance. Therefore vegetable tanned leather is sensitive to light, humidity and abrasion. The full grain leather surface will develop a unique patina over time by simply using the bag.

Leather needs to breathe, do not store it in plastic. Our bags come with a cotton dust pouch. Please use it to keep your bag in good condition, in a dry place, preferably at room temperature.
To preserve its form, empty the bag (of weight and/or irregular forms) when not using it.
Direct sunlight and contact with liquids (including water) should be avoided. When wet, dab the surface gently with a soft absorbent cloth. Do not let it dry near a heater. Do not apply detergents or chemical cleaning agents. They harm the leather.
Scratches are unavoidable when using the bag. Scuffs and marks collected over the years are memories of your adventures in life.

Merryl Tielman takes great care in handling affairs faultlessly. The brand can however not be held accountable for possible price errors on this website.
The Merryl Tielman office is located within the EU. The prices displayed on this website are for EU customers, with VAT included, but excluding customs duties, which are not applied for traffic of goods within the EU. 
For all orders shipping outside of the EU, the VAT amount will be deducted from the displayed price at checkout. Please be aware that customs and duty fees may apply for the purchased items when entering your country. We would advise you to check with your local customs office in regards, as customs policies vary from country to country. If you are required to pay import and duty taxes, you will be contacted directly by the shipping service.

We ship free of charges to: Canada, United States, EU countries, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Iceland, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom. For other destinations shipping costs are € 25,00 per item. The shipping fee will be applied to your order at checkout.
Please ensure that you have written your shipping and billing address correctly. Please note that we are unable to deliver to post office boxes.
We take care that our bags will arrive in the best possible way. All orders will be dispatched from our warehouse within 2 to 5 working days. We operate from Monday to Friday except for public holidays.
Though shipping time is usually shorter, please allow up to 4 weeks for the items to be delivered. Shipping times exclude clearance/customs/transport/paymentauthorizationdelays. Kindly note that delivery to rural addresses may result in longer delivery times.
To confirm that your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email notification with a tracking number, fully traceable through the shipping companies websites.

In case you want to return an item please send us an email within 14 days upon receipt of your order to refund@merryltielman.com to receive return information.
Please include the reason of your request. Please note that we do not refund or reimburse any custom duties above your order.
In order to get a refund the returned item must be unused, in its original packaging and in mint condition upon receiving by Merryl Tielman. You should use a traceable shipping service with a shipping insurance.
The refund does not include shipping costs. The return shipping costs are only covered if an item has been stated defective by Merryl Tielman. After receipt of the returned item you will receive a notification of approval or rejection of the refund. In case of approval you will receive your refund receipt within 7 days. The refund amount will be returned via the same means of payment used to make the purchase. Please allow up to 7 days for the refund to arrive back into your bank account.
